If you are hungry, grab your apron and get cooking! Making food yourself (sometimes with a little help from a parent) is a great way to learn about food and meal preparation. Here are some yummy and healthy recipes for you to try!!


Ants on a Log
(Takes 5 minutes to make)
You will need: 2 celery sticks, peanut butter, raisins, and a knife
Directions:

  1. Wash the celery
  2. Cut the celery in half (the short way, not the long way)
  3. Spread peanut butter in the "U-shape" of the celery from one end to the other
  4. Press raisins gently into the peanut butter and enjoy ants on a log!

Fruit Kabobs
(Takes 10 minutes to make)
You will need: 1 apple, 1 banana, different colored grapes, yogurt, shredded & dried coconut, a knife, 2 skewer sticks, and a plate.
Directions:

  1. Prepare the fruit by: washing grapes and the apple, and then cut the apple and banana into pieces the size of the grapes.
  2. Spread the coconut onto the large plate
  3. Slide pieces of the fruit onto the skewers and fill the skewer from end to end
  4. Spread yogurt onto the fruit
  5. Roll the fruit kabob in the coconut and enjoy your fruit kabob!

Crunchy, Munchy Granola
(Takes 40 minutes to make)
You will need: 2 cups of oatmeal, ½ cup of peanuts, ½ cup of wheat germ, ¼ cup of honey, ¼ cup of vegetable oil, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, ½ cup of raisins, ½ cup of carob chips, oven, large and small bowl, mixing spoon, oiled baking sheet, and measuring cups and spoons.
Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit (165 degrees Celsius).
  2. In a large bowl, use a spoon to mix the oatmeal, peanuts, and wheat germ.
  3. In a small bowl, mix the honey, oil, and vanilla.
  4. Work the honey, oil, and vanilla mixture into the first mixture that's in the large bowl. Use your hands to make sure it's all mixed together really well, or you can use a mixing spoon if you like.
  5. Spread the mix onto the oiled baking sheet. Bake for 15 minutes, then remove the baking sheet from the oven.
  6. Use a mixing spoon to stir the mix around a little on the baking sheet, then add the raisins and carob chips.
  7. Put the baking sheet back in the oven, and bake for another 10 minutes.
  8. Remove granola from oven and allow it to cool.

Tiny Pizzas
(Takes 15 minutes to make)
You will need: English muffins (cut in half), tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, toppings (like pepperoni, chopped green pepper, chopped onion, ham, etc.), seasonings (like oregano, basil, and pepper), an oven, a baking sheet, and a knife or spoon.
Directions:

  1. Set the oven to low heat.
  2. Spread tomato sauce on each English muffin half.
  3. Sprinkle the shredded cheese all over the tomato sauce on each half.
  4. Add your favorite toppings.
  5. Put a light sprinkling of seasonings on each half.
  6. Put your English muffin halves on the baking sheet.
  7. Bake in the oven on low heat for about 5 to 8 minutes. You'll know they're done when the cheese is bubbly.
  8. Let cool for a minute, and then enjoy your tiny pizzas!

Strawberry Smoothie
(Takes 5 minutes to make)
You will need: 2 ice cubes, a cup of milk, 1 peeled banana, 2/3 of a cup of frozen strawberries, a blender, a glass, measuring cups.
Directions:

  1. Put all ingredients into the blender
  2. Put the lid on the blender and blend for 45-60 seconds or until smooth
  3. Pour the liquid into the glass and enjoy your strawberry smoothie!
