Youth Groups Interested in Health
Our goal at Union River Healthy Communities is to encourage youth to become active leaders for building a healthy future. We have the ability to create healthy environments for our children and youth by working with them as partners. We aim to do this by becoming healthy role models and allies, listening to and supporting youth ideas, and by and giving young people the opportunity to use their skills and ideas to serve the health of their communities. By providing health content materials and information about youth advocacy trainings, Union River Healthy Communities currently supports the following efforts promoting positive child and youth health:
- My Choice -- Sumner High School Chemical Free Group, working to educate the school and community on the benefits of being chemical free, and to promote the "chem.-free" lifestyle by setting positive examples. Every year My Choice prepares and teaches a lesson about the dangers of tobacco use and substance abuse to Union 96 5th grade classes.
